"Each subject focuses

on a moment in time,

a moment where I

embrace the beauty

before me."

Carol’s artistic focus is the contemporary landscape. It is the barren landscape that is most appealing to the artist. The isolation provides the stillness and empowerment she requires while visiting these arrestingly vast places. The result is a sense of solitude and strength that embodies Carol’s paintings. Carol is best known for pioneering a unique and striking art form she refers to as, ‘sculpted paintings’. Her paintings are created on laminated western red cedar panels of which very specific selections have been sculpted by relief carving and sandblasting, thereby bringing out natural wood grain textures, to isolate her subject and provide additional drama, captivating the viewer’s attention. This brings distinctiveness to her paintings, which are unlike the works of other artists specializing in the acrylic medium. Carol’s paintings can be found in numerous private and corporate collections.

*SANDBLASTING - the method used to create relief within the painting. At a high pressure, the sand’s abrasive quality removes the wood from unprotected areas of the composition, exposing the natural grain of the wood. The flat protected areas remain smooth for application of many layers of fluid acrylics.
