Admiring the work of Frank Lloyd Wright since the age of 12, and having studied architecture in my first years of university, I am inspired by ancient and adobe architecture. While travelling to Mexico, Belize, and Guatemala in 1998, I had the opportunity to personally visit the Mayan sites I had studied in school. The impressive ruins were placed amid the Chiapa Mountains. I was deeply moved by the intense history embedded in the rugged limestone walls and enduring structures. It was not only the majestic landscape these building lay on, but also the unknown that captured my spirit.
I intentionally darken and sandblast the doorways to guide the viewer further into that mysterious world.
